Cobra in Art history is an European avant-garde movement (1948-1951) born between the cities of COpenhagen (CO), BRussells (BR) and Amsterdam (A); it takes its name from the conjunction of the initial letters of these three capitals.

Charactherized mainly as the rebellion against the authoritarian II Post World War atmosphere, this movement represented an important step into the modern art history useful to understand its development and actual achievements.

It is also a central aspect the european vocation of this Movement, born and conceived not to be limited in a small geographic territory of the northern Europe but as a message to be part of the whole post war european spirit.

Common visual element of the Cobra Artists were the instinctive usage of essential and strong colors, the deformed representation of humans, strong strokes and evident letters incision on the canvas.

All these elements meant to communicate a protest against the “civilized system of art”, a kind of childlike approach representing the terror and fragile balance of that European society.

The short experience of Cobra left a message of modernity not perfectly understood in those times; few decades after a young American painter managed unconsciously to “revisit” that experience and complete the path traced by the Cobra Artists: Mr. Jean-Michel Basquiet.

It may sound too much daring, but i believe the continuation and evolution of languages and sensitivities we can appreciate from Cobra until Basquiet represent the logical continuation of these restless souls who enriched with their talent and creativity the Modern Art scenario.

My Cobra Collection represents an unconscious (and not expected) dialogue with this artistic experience where i concluded my art presents evident similarities with this way to feel and interpret visual art.
